This song has been stuck in my head all day... nothing better than the Stooges. I'm definitely a sucker for Raw Power too; how can you not love Iggy on the cover in all that makeup?

But half of what makes Iggy and the Stooges so great are their performances. So here's a fucking amazing and important one from a music festival in Cincinnati in 1970:

Best part = when the silly announcer says "that's peanut butter!". Hehe. Anyways, this weekend has been filled with painting, Stooges listening, and reading the Hunger Games (soooo good. Really.) Right now I'm looking forward to my thanksgiving in Florida! Hope everyone has a good holiday :)

You know those days when you really feel great in what you're wearing? Today is one of those days for sure. A White Stripes color palette is something that's always worth coming back to. Plus, the polka-dots totally make me feel like minnie mouse :)

But the best part of all is that I just got my white leather jacket in the mail! MY GOD IS IT AMAZING. I bought it with the intention of customizing it with some pink pop stars, but now I am kinda liking the plain white. Oh no, the decisions!

The thing is, the jacket is such great quality (and a relatively good price at $100) that I'm thinking I may save up for another one so I can have one plain and one totally tricked out (yes... I may have a leather addiction...).

In other news, I'm working on a new painting, as well as trying to get everything done before Thanksgiving. I'm going out to Florida to stay with Melissa for the break... cannot wait to get me to the land of sun, alligators, and old folk!

We had school off on Monday due to not having power the entire weekend, so my friends and I went out and bought some Halloween appropriate earrings in town. I got pink ones (duh). The right combination of spooky and girly (and therefore terrifying).

After spending the summer working for a photographer, I've found myself becoming more and more interested in that type of work. Funny that I haven't ever thought about taking photos myself before this, seeing that my mom has been somewhat of a photographer my whole life.

Anyways, here are some photos of my best friends Emily and Melissa. The second photo (of Melissa) is a project I did for my digital media class; I photoshopped in the still lifes, jewelry, and window from paintings (mostly from the 17th century Dutch painting). I think I'm pretty happy with how it came out!

So after a long time gone from this blog, I've decided to give it another try! After two years of being in college, I've finally got a camera now (although I don't have a tripod... check the makeshift one I made out of a chair and my desk in the mirror of the pictures...) so I'm going to commit to outfit posts as well as updates on my art!

Skeptical face is skeptical.

The year has started off well, living on the fourth floor of Morris House with Melissa and Emily. Went to the Big E about a week ago with Emmy and Jim, and we got a pair of llama (or llamer, as Jim says) ear tag earrings! Emily got one and I got the other.

This weekend was Fall Break, which was filled with lazy pond-side napping, tea drinking, and today, some ballpoint pen tattooing courtesy of Praatika. So much punk and Adventure Time goodness.

Praatika and Britte as Jake and Fin? Pretty much the best Halloween costumes ever.

I'm so happy that Fall up and running... I love the leaves and apple cider and Halloween and that general harvesty American feeling.

But even better than that, Big Sib/Lil Sib week is here and I have been giving presents every day to a first year in my house. Big Sibs were so important to me last year, and they are still some of my best friends at school. So even though I'm now a sophmore, my big sib Emily is still giving me presents! First she surprised me with licorice, then earrings, and last night she gave me a fancy Martha Stewart-inspired apple. Why she gotta be so crafty, huh?

Being back at Smith this year is the best ever. Seriously.
I feel like I have never been happier or more productive in my life. I have amazing friends (including some incredibly crafty big sibs!), awesome classes, bomb new first years in Morris House, and I'm on an inspiring crew team. Man, all this positivity is starting to freak me out... hopefully I'm not headed for a fall?

Anyways, just finished an oil painting for dearest Emily. For our 3-D Design Class she is making a sweet wave-shaped sculpture out of dried fishes. So I decided to paint one! Here is the set-up (sorry for the lame photobooth pics... I have no camara... and it reverses everything weirdly!)(haha and my hair is awkwardly hanging over the picture...):

I added a face to the fishy! He looks a little concerned.

Tait did so well on his first runway show in Paris! It's great that he got to walk in front of THE Rei Kawakubo and get picked for Comme des Garcons SHIRT his first season out here. Even if he does look a little like Alfalfa with his hair in that Mohawk... hahah :P

but I did like seeing this picture of male models in Milan shot on Jak and Jil.
This is exactly what preparing for men's fashion week has been like... these too skinny, too tall, and too pretty guys just hanging around in packs! You see them everywhere you go and can just go up and start talking to one about a show or how to get somewhere because you can just tell who is a model. It's pretty hilarious.

Tait's been doing well.. he shot a lookbook for Kenzo on monday, tomorrow he is doing the Issey Miyake show (SO COOL!!!!!1) and Sunday he is booked for the Rynshu show. I guess the Japanese must really love him! We have yet to find out what else he is up for... so exciting!

On Friday we headed out to the Petit Palais to check out the Yves St. Laurent exhibit... which was abosolutey AMAZING. Like, I want to wear a Le Smoking every day for the rest of my life and worship Yves at the alter kind of amazing.

But aside from the exhibit, the palace was astonishingly beautiful. They had a little garden and a cafe in the middle, and so many great sculptures!

Attractive? Uh... maybe not so much...

Sunday was still just me and Mom with nothing to do, so we went exploring. We found this amazing bridge that my mom had still somehow never been to even though this is her eigth trip here. SO beautiful.

Next we went to the Palais de Tokyo, which has some of the best avant-garde up-to-the-moment art around.... but only one exhibit was open (which was still cool though) because they were preparing what looked like a very intense exhibit. What was pretty strange, though, was that the huge plaza on the exterior was covered in graffiti and was clearly a hangout for skaters/punks/troubled youth. But no effort it seems was made to get rid of them. Not really sure what I think about that... My mom thought that the graffiti made it look dirty and ugly. I'm not sure if I love or hate it. hmmm.

So we have been here for about five days now and I haven't updated at all! Oh well... too much fun! Been doing castings with Tait for the last few days... its scary how many tall, beautiful men there are in this world. And I'm the only girl around at the castings (cuz Tait is usually the only one under 18) so it feels really strange... like the reverse of Smith except everyone is really REALLY good-looking. Ahahaha...

However, I think this girl is kinda next level? And it makes me laugh because it is exactly what we were "thinking" of cutting my friend Lauren's hair like so we could be in a partially-shaved head gang. Wouldn't that be THE shit?

But Señor Schuman tries to justify liking the girl's look by saying that she is still keeping it fem.
WHY do people love that classic/feminine twist shizz? Is the only way a girl can wear a bold style to keep the sexy factor up or something? I don't give a fuck if she is showing skin or wearing sparkles, girlfriend could be dressed in the most boyish stuff around and I would still think she was a beast. Take that, Douchetorialist.

So long story short, I commend him for taking the photo. But I also cant stand the asshole explanation about why he is posting the photo. Just post it like it is, like you do for your grandpas on bikes and shots of Anna Dello Russo prancing around fashion week.

Right now I am totally loving Die Antwoord (translated to The Answer), a Afrikaans hip-hop group from South Africa. They are really something new; listening to them and their "zef" style reminds me again about how little I don't know. This is a culture I'm COMPLETELY unfamiliar with. Just when you think you have a good idea of the way the world is something like this comes at you out of nowhere...

Anyways, what's interesting about them is that they are so over the top vulgar and white-trashy that you think that they must be ironic. But I really think they aren't; they know who they are and where they come from and they aren't afraid to represent it.

Also I love their style... Ninja the lead rapper is always bearing his underwear so it seems, and Yolandi's haircut is pretty awful/inspired. Love their sense of humor!

They are coming on a US tour later this year... hopefully they will swing by Northampton? That would be something else... :D

First of all, Happy Easter weekend!!! It's just that much closer to summer...

Speaking of Summer, if anyone defines the season for me recently its MGMT. I spent all of summer 2008 listening to Oracular Spectacular (along with Tha Carter III by my boy Weezy F. Baby). I also LOVED them when I saw them live in San Diego for the FM 94.9 Independence Jam in May 2008. Great and lots of fun live, and I was lucky enough to see them with a relatively small crowd.
So needless to say I'm really excited for their new album Congratulations, which has unfortunately already been leaked but I plan on buying legally on April 13, thank you very much.

Anyways, I just discovered their new video for their first single, and damn the song is good. Maybe not as accessible as their previous shit, but there is definitely a lot of good stuff going on, and you can tell they are really trying new things.

Pretty sweet video. Freaky. Makes me fear eels being forced into my orifices.

Coming at you from the beautiful Lake Lanier in Gainesville, Georgia. Here with the Smith Crew Team for spring break (we row twice a day!!)... it is much warmer than Massachusetts... which is very happy.

The lake is HUGE and very pretty... although the nicest picture I could find was from a drought.

The South is something else... lovin the accents, its hard to believe that people actually talk that differently within the same country.

So the new vibe is totally wacky masculine for me right now. I guess it's just been a natural progression, since when I first started dressing interestingly I was all about wearing dresses, since nobody else did. And while most people are still running around in blue jeans, dresses have become way more acceptable for day wear. But hey- I'm totally not abandoning them. It's just that we just watched a movie about gay women intellectuals in the 1920's living on the left bank of Paris in one of my classes and I kind of want to be them. OKDONTJUDGEME.

So this whole inspiration comes from this editorial from W mag from October, featuring Freja Beha Erichsson in an AMAZING white pantsuit. But not a gross pantsuit made for ~ladies. Nope, she is wearing an unabashedly masculine suit, and dudes, it is killing me with want. I mean... the hat? the three pieces? looking like a silly little boy? I will take it sir.

This is basically what I am planning on looking like for all of Men's Fashion Weeks this summer (I'm going with Taity!!! But more on that later...). I'm planning on buying some old frumpy pastel/white men's suits and taking them in and such. It's gonna be dope. Trust me on this one.

Just got back from my trip to New York, which was AMAZING! Went to some modeling agencies with my brother, then upstate for a family reunion and cousin bonding. Then my brother and I got dragged to an aging hippie fest aka Heroes of Woodstock 2009, which, sadly, had none of the Heroes from Woodstock 1969 (except for Levon Helm aka BEAST). Anyways, one of the highlights was hearing Big Brother and the holding company because they had two awesome female singers stepping in for the great Janis, one being Superfly from Japan.... her voice was kerazy, as was her completely non-ironic hippie wardrobe. Stripy jumpsuit covered in fringe? YES PLEEZ.
Deffo THE best thing about this sad sad concert. (not including Levon Helm, whom I sadly missed.)

You know what I say? Hippie never looked so good.

Just got done working on a McDonalds commercial on Tuesday... I swear, we probably went through like 80 hamburgers altogether! Ridiculous! The coolist thing though was that they had a food stylist there to create the hamburgers... ahahah sooo strange.

Anyways, my boss was wearing the H&M drop-crotch pants I have on above, which we have dubbed the flying squirrells. Paired with a bat-wing button up (which she had on), you look like a regular airborne mammel :D

So anyways, I ran out to go get the pants ASAP, and returned with two pairs of harem pants from H&M (the other pair is purple and a in different style) and a black, long-sleeved bodysuit from American Apparel. Finally, the staples I have been needing for so long....

And today, I went shopping at JunQies in Dana Point (which is sadly relocating to Nashville... tear...) and everything is 50% off!! SCORE!

I got this 70's hat there for $6, and I also got a ginorm yellow belt, feather earrings, and a hot pink see-through mesh bathingsuit! (Which I will be wearing as a bodysuit layering-type affair, NOT as a bathing suit!) In other words, I am quite a happy camper.

I'm really excited to see Bruno tomorrow... and I am also shaving the side of my head on Saturday. I made up my mind to try it! I am going to Snoop Dogg/Slightly Stoopid Blazed and Confused on Sat, so I will try to have pictures from that to share of my new haircut!!! WooooOO

So spent the last few days hanging out with my mom... we went to see "All Tomorrows Parties" at the LA film festival, which was absolutely EXCELLENT.

Seriously, so many concert movies are kinda boring with little that done to make the material new/exciting. The film featured SO many good bands and really made me want to attend the festival... but alas, it is in merry old England while I am stuck way out here in the great lonely West.

But I digress.

Some of the bands in the film included Nick Cave, Portishead, Animal Collective, Belle and Sebastian, Sonic Youth, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, GZA, Patti Smith, The Gossip, and some other lovelies that I am failing to remember here.

Nick Cave did an excellent rendition of "No Pussy Blues" from his Grinderman album. LOVE THAT ALBUM.

I was also super impressed by the Gossip. I mean, I know about Beth Ditto from her awesome fashion, brashness, and the incredible cover of LOVE magazine, but her voice, her voice!! She is a force, and I really need to see them live for sure.

But another cool thing about the film was the short film we watched before it that debuted called "We Once Were a Fairytale" directed by Spike Jonze and starring little old Kanyeezie West. It was hilarious!! Basically it was Kanye being drunk in da club listening to his own song ("See you in my Nightmares") and acting ridiculous and getting rejected by girls. It just gets weirder and weirder as he falls drunkenly into a room, has sex with a girl in a cheetah print dress (or so he thinks) only to wake up, pants around his ankles, to realize he just fucked a cheetah print couch. hahahaha AMAZING. Oh yeah and there is also Fonzworth Bentley, some confetti blood/vomit, ceremonial suppoku, and a demon rat pulled from poor Kanye's stomach, who also commits suicide.

It was totally all about making fun of Kanye's ridiculous persona, which was amazing. It's true, I'm in love with everything this guy does. NOW PLEASE GET THAT PASTELLE SHIT READY, YEEZIE!! INEEDSIT!!

So I'm really into South Paradiso leather at the moment.... I have gone in their shop on Sunset with my boss once and I LOVE the way it looks. Crazy colors everywhere, a giant buffalo head and Howdy Doody greats you upon entry with his enormous smiling mug. They were featured in the LA Times really recently, which was really cool and exciting. Because if your a designer with a name like Romulus, I think you automatically deserve success.

Its amazing and totally reminds me of Laurel Canyon circa 1969... because I was definitely there... I SWEARZ.

So... speaking of the Horrors I felt that SOMEONE in my life needed these shoes so I just got them for my lovely brother... I just couldnt justify buying them for myself when there are those whose lives are so piteously devoid of shoes, such as my dork brother's.

I'm definitely on a Hemingway kick at the moment, mostly because of this awesome shirt that I found in my mom's closet. It's from Key West, aka a place that I should definitely visit some day.

I first started reading Hemingway last year in school with "A Farewell to Arms", and I adore "A Moveable Feast," "The Old Man and the Sea," and the short story "A Clean, Well-lighted Place."... I really do love him, even though he seemed kinda like a jerkish machismo type dude that was overcomponsating for something...

Just got done with IB testing for the week... don't I look like a happy camper?

I dug this shirt out for kicks and I must say that I quite adore it... I got it years ago at a Twin Rivers horse show. Love the pink and the old-skool prancing ponies.

So my testing uniform has been wearing my docs with somewhat threatening pants such as these cheap mondays. I WILL EAT YOU TEST AND YOU WILL BE DEADED!
